If you're a regular reader of this blog, you know I talk from time to time about the emergence of information governance -- the need for a new, senior-level policy-setting function to help organizations figure out how to manage information like money.
Yesterday, EMC announced the availability of a new study by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) who did a state-of-the-state survey on the topic. There's also some supporting material, including a videos from me and Tom Roloff, who runs EMC Consulting.
Bottom line: only a few organizations have invested the time and the effort to set up these functions, but they're seeing the payback on several levels: risks are identified and remediated, costs are considered and contained, and -- ultimately -- business can be done with confidence.
And my guess is that we're going to be seeing many more business leaders taking the same steps in the near future.
