Valueable framework!

Especially like the part about soliciting for feedback and not falling into the trap of defending ideas. One has to keep an open mind, and map the idea nuggets you are receiving to your original idea. Often this leads to the next level of questions. I have had such discussions which sometimes completely changed my approach.

What a great post. I went through the GE Change Acceleration Program (CAP) classes and they covered much of the same material. This post is much more actionable though. I like the advice on preparing for the meeting with your key stakeholder and getting feedback.

You are right that e-mailing an attachment around wont accomplish much.

Thanks

Ruth

Nice Post,
I am taking on a new Job which involves developing strategies now and again. I have been enriched.

just a question. Do strategies have definate formats like research papers?

Great Post Chuck.
I am writing a document now and I will take your guide with me.

I particularly like the frameworks and changing communication modes.

Thanks Nick

Someone said to me recently writing a good strategy doc is like being a bus driver. Your passengers decide the destination, your job is to get them there quickly and safely.

It stuck.

Chuck now works for Oracle, and is now deeply embroiled in IT infrastructure.

Previously, he was with VMware for 2 years, and EMC for 18 years before that, most of them great.

He enjoys speaking to customer and industry audiences about a variety of technology topics, and -- of course -- enjoys blogging.

Chuck lives in Vero Beach, FL with his wife and four dogs when he's not traveling. In his spare time, Chuck is working on his second career as an aging rock musician.

Warning: do not ever buy him a drink when there is a piano nearby.

  • Frequency of Updates
I try and write something new 1-2 times per week; less if I'm travelling, more if I'm in the office. Hopefully you'll find the frequency about right!
