You are absolutely right. IT is disappearing into operational oblivion. In my view information management through BI is the way forward as is human capital management through collaboration.

Great points Chuck, I agree.

I interviewed 50 CDOs and mapped out over 250 globally. Only one came from the CIO track (Steven Laster, from CIO of Harvard University, to CDO of McGraw Hill Education).

To date, most CDOs are coming from a business orientation, not a purely technical track. But for the ebusiness-oriented CIO, the CDO slot is a great move.

I'll share my findings in a White Paper, which we'll publish just prior to the inaugural Chief Digital Officer Summit hosted by Thomson Reuters on Feb 28 2013. More here: http://CDOSummit.com

General Housekeeping

  • Frequency of Updates
I try and write something new 1-2 times per week; less if I'm travelling, more if I'm in the office. Hopefully you'll find the frequency about right!
  • Comments and Feedback
All courteous comments welcome. TypePad occasionally puts comments into the spam folder, but I'll fish them out. Thanks!
