Whew! Where do I start?
Simply put, this blog is a personal recounting of something big happening at a big company.
The "something big" is social media as a business tool: blogs, wikis, forums, communities -- the whole shebang.
The "someplace big" is EMC Corporation -- my employer.
And the only reason I think this worth capturing is that I truly believe that thousands and thousands of companies -- and people like me -- will be taking this very same journey in the near future
My Goals For This Blog
I think lots and lots of people will be making a similar journey in the coming years -- from Enterprise 1.0 to Enterprise 2.0, to borrow a metaphor.
There will be people who find themselves in charge of changing the behaviors of thousands of people to become conversant with social media tools and their skillful use.
And part of the fun is figuring out one thing, which leads you to another, which leads you to another.
Hence this blog -- you'll be able to watch the evolution of my (and EMC's) thinking regarding social media as a business tool
Everyone contemplating this journey will have their own unique situation. But maybe there's something you'll be able to pick up from this journey.
Good luck with your journey. We started the social computing journey in 2005 originally as a "grass roots" initiative with several other "volunteers" who spent countless hours (after-hours) designing our first social computing application which was in the area of idea management called ID-ah!. You can read a bit about it here

or more recently here

In any case, we have moved from grass roots to a corporate and expanded into several other social computing and collaborative technology areas. It's been a fun ride so far.

Hi Rex
I know there are many more of us out there going down roughly the same path.
Where do we all hang out and collaborate?
Thanks
